Course Designers

The pairing of Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley brings together two individuals with a common passion for the game of golf.  The Schmidt-Curley partnership dates back to 1984. 

The significant accomplishments of the Landmark Land Company, developers of world-class properties, are PGA WEST, the La Quinta Hotel Golf Club and Kiawah Island. 

In 1990, Lee Schmidt left Landmark to become Senior Design Associate for Jack Nicklaus.  At that time, Brian Curley became Director of Design and Construction for Landmark Golf Company.  In late 1997, Brian bought the Design Division of Landmark Golf Company and reunited with Lee.

The formation of Schmidt-Curley combines two friends and seasoned professionals with a strong desire to continue creating courses that will stand the test of time.  Schmidt-Curley projects span from California to Arizona, Las Vegas to China, Louisiana to the beautiful Pacific Northwest.  Their Philosophy is to design a course that is demanding, but at the same time beautiful and enjoyable.  A course that stirs the senses and elevates the players' appreciation of the land and his own game.

As you will see, Canoa Ranch will mimic Lee and Brian's effort to provide the finest product possible.  From the panoramic views of Elephant Head to the beauty of Green Valley, Canoa Ranch is enjoyable, beautiful and memorable.

The June 2001 issue of Golf Digest featured the top courses around the world.

In China, the top 3 courses all have ties to Schmidt-Curley.The #1 and #3-ranked courses are Spring City Resort in Kunming and Chungshan Hot Springs, both courses designed by Lee while he was with Jack Nicklaus.  The #2-ranked course, the Faldo Course at Mission Hills, was designed by Brian with Nick Faldo.  On the list at #10 is Agile Country Club, a recent Schmidt-Curley design.
